If you have lost most or all of your natural teeth, your dentist may recommend a partial or full denture. Dentures can restore your confidence in social and professional settings, improve your speech, ability to chew, facial volume and enhance your smile.
Dentures are designed to look and function as natural teeth.
What types of dentures do you offer?
Etwall Dental Practice offers full or partial dentures which are removable replacements for missing teeth.
A partial denture rests against the roof or floor of your mouth and is typically secured using stainless steel clasps that attach to some of your remaining natural teeth.
Full dentures can restore one or both of your arches, providing a complete set of prosthetic teeth.
A full denture adheres directly to the gums using suction. Some patients also supplement this with denture adhesive for a more stable and comfortable fit.
What is involved in a denture fitting?
Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and gums. We send the impressions to a dental laboratory. At the lab technicians manufacture a bespoke set of full or partial dentures customised to the shape of your mouth and gums.
Before fitting a full denture, your dentist may need to extract remaining teeth. This is done under a local anaesthetic and after your gums have healed your dentures are fitted.
As your gums heal following your extractions, they may change shape. If that happens, your dentures may need to be realigned for the best fit.
If you are getting a partial denture, no extraction is necessary, and your dentures can be fitted immediately.
How should I care for my denture?
Your denture can be removed for cleaning. Take your dentures out after each meal and clean away any food particles using a soft brush and a specialist denture cleansing solution. While you sleep, soak your denture in an antibacterial solution.
