Fixed braces are a common and effective orthodontic method to re-adjust teeth. They are also known as “train tracks” or “fixed appliances” and can be fabricated from ceramic or metallic materials.
The brace system comprises of individual brackets attached to the tooth and an arch-wire running through them. The appliance exerts controlled pressure to shift the teeth gradually into the desired position.
What is the duration of a fixed brace treatment?
On average, it can take between 12 to 24 months to complete orthodontic therapy, but it varies in each patient’s case. It is essential to regularly visit your orthodontist during this period, so they can monitor your progress and make the required adjustments.
Will the braces be comfortable?
During your initial brace fitting, you may experience some discomfort, and your teeth may feel slightly tender, but this is only temporary.
Will there be restrictions on the intake of certain food groups?
Slight changes to your diet may be required for optimal fixed brace treatment. Extra care is required while consuming hard foods as they are not an ideal choice for patients with fixed braces. Sticky foods such as chewing gum or toffee can damage the brace and should be avoided.
Will I have to follow a special dental hygiene routine?
Our team of professionals can formulate an oral hygiene regime for you during your treatment. They can recommend specific orthodontic brushes and special products such as dental floss and also demonstrate the correct techniques to use them. It is also advisable to regularly visit our hygienist so they can keep your teeth clean.
