A crown is a protective cap that encases the visible portion of your tooth that lies above the gum line.
If you have a damaged, misshapen, or heavily stained tooth, a dental crown is an excellent option for restoring its appearance, shape, size, strength and functionality.
A crown can also be used to anchor a bridge, cover an implant, restore a fractured tooth and cover a tooth after a root canal treatment.
What does a crown fitting involve?
Your dentist prepares the tooth and sends an impression to a dental lab to create your bespoke restoration. You will be fitted with a temporary crown.
At your follow-up appointment, your temporary crown is removed, and your permanent crown is cemented in place.
How long will my crown last?
Dental crowns can last for 5-8 years depending on the material you choose but can last much longer with a good oral health regime and regular dental check-ups and hygiene cleanings.
To prolong the life of your crown avoid damaging habits like fingernail biting, chewing ice and teeth grinding.
